Spring 2013
From New York to London to Milan to Paris. I loved a lot of the collections for Spring/Summer 2013. There were favorites (Dior, Proenzo, Dries, Christopher Kane), but there were plenty of great looks to choose from across the board. Below are some highlights with a brief encapsulation of my thoughts.
Alexander McQueen: Bees Knees? More like most fashionable beekeeper you've ever come across.
Altuzarra: Editors' favorite. Look out for those coats come spring.
Balenciaga: Sexy ruffles, structured ruffles.
Bottega Veneta: Vintage with a modern armor in the details. Dresses women will want to wear.
Burberry Prorsum: Color and urban elegance.
Celine: I got the pajama vibe, but ultra modern and strikingly sexy. I didn't care for the fuzzy slippers.
Christopher Kane: Gosh, those dresses with the taped appliques were great. And the origami ones, too.
Narciso Rodriguez: Back on the radar with a collection everybody seemed to love.
Ohne Titel: The CFDA finalists provided some great options for daywear with color and structure.
Prada: I got the grown-Lolita-moves-to-Japan-and-becomes-jaded vibe.
Proenzo Schouler: This dress was one of my favorite looks of the season.
Saint Laurent: Back to boho chic. New designer, nostalgic designs.
Stella McCartney: Athleticism goes chiffon. Color and paneling that exudes optimism and confidence.
Dries Van Noten |
Dries Van Noten: Always a favorite. Some called it "grunge goes couture", I call it brilliant design for women.

A Summer on the Dolce Coast
After a month long absence, I wanted to begin my posts on
fashion week with a clever and beautiful interpretation of the Dolce and
Gabbana show. Diana from the blog Miss Moss does these wonderfully artistic color
comparisons, and this is one of my favorites. She took looks from the show and
coupled them with vintage travel posters. The result is a great artistic
interpretation of the theme of the show. A couple of my favorite looks are
below and the rest can be found here.

Weekend Photographic Inspiration
Although I find clothes and art beautiful, nothing can floor me like a stunning scenic vista. I grew up around a lot of nature, and I find the most inspiration in mountains, rivers, lakes, etc. Below are some beautiful photos of natural beauty I stumbled upon online, and some style inspiration to accompany them. The last image is an Andrew Nuding photograph.

Hit The Streets
I love street style photography, I believe that is truly where the trends are developed and displayed in unique and intriguing ways. Tommy Ton's street photography is among the best. The colors are crystal clear and each photo showcases the outfit/accessory/personality of the subject wonderfully. Below are some Tommy Ton photographs that I find capture a trend well.
1. Round Glasses
2. Head shot T-Shirts
3. Floral
4. Peplum
5. Sneakers

A New Era
Raf Simons' first couture collection for Dior, after John Galliano was dismissed from the house for his anti-Semitic rant, was a brilliant mix of old, new, and that grey area in between. He seemed to receive wide spread approval from the designers and editors in attendance, and has offered something fresh for the brand. The peplum waists were a wonderful silhouette, and a hot one at the moment. The craftsmanship was top of the line, of course, without being extravagant. The looks remind one of the couture seen on the Christian Dior runways of yesteryear. It was a beautiful collection, and I am eagerly anticipating his Spring collection for the house. Bravo Mr. Simons.

Weekend Photographic Inspiration
Here are some great images that I've found inspiration from recently. The first two are from various tumblrs, and the last is an Alex Katz print currently on display at the Museum of Fine Arts here in Boston. The exhibit was a treat and it was great reading that he is still producing work, although he is well into his eighties.

Round About
I've recently been noticing a lot of round sunglasses on the streets and on fashion blogs. This is a departure from the usual Ray Ban wayfarer style we've been seeing for the past few years. I like the whimsical nature of the eyewear style, both with large and small frames. Here are some looks below:
The first two photographs are by Tommy Ton for his blog and the third is the Ray Ban RB3447 47 style of shades that come in both pink and blue.

Kate's Dress
Kate Middleton recently attended an Olympic concert at Royal Albert Hall in this stunning Jenny Packham dress. The dress has such a beautiful back, and the color works wonderfully on her.

Met Gala Favorites
Below are some images of the beautiful looks from the Met Gala, which took place this past Monday night. The live feed on vogue.com allowed viewers to see all of the attendees as they walked down the carpet, as well as watch intermittent interviews. It is one of my favorite fashion events of the year.
Rooney Mara looked elegant in Givenchy. This could be the beginning of a collaboration akin to Audrey Hepburn and Givenchy during Hepburn's career.
Gwyneth Paltrow chose a short Prada number that showed off her legs. The inspiration for the night were the witty designs of Prada and Schiaparelli, so I thought the look appropriate.
Gisele Bündchen was stunning in black. But she is always stunning.
Karlie Kloss in Jason Wu. The model looked sexy and elegant in the sheer pink gown by the designer. I loved her hair and makeup choices as well
January Jones in Versace. The Mad Men star wore my favorite look of the night. The dress fit her perfectly and I enjoyed the colorful necklace in contrast with the yellow of her dress.
